Shell Company Naming Guidelines
A shell company cannot be named with legal terminology (such as Inc., PLC, LLC, etc.). If the name of a company changes, the name of the corresponding shell is updated accordingly.
Shell name examples: Saperix Group or Saperix Corporation.
The following terminology are commonly used for shell companies:
- Companies
- Used for a group of companies.
- Corporation
- Typically used for companies based in North America.
- Group
- Applied to a group of companies, usually outside North America.
- System
- Used for institutions such as hospitals, universities, schools, and government entities.
Shell Information that Cannot Be Changed

Description: Shell companies follow a standard template for descriptions. The description is updated accordingly if the name of the shell changes.
Example: The Bitsight Technologies Family includes Bitsight Technologies and Bitsight Labs. The group is based in Boston, Massachusetts.
- Employee Count: The shell aggregates the number of employees from all companies in the ratings tree.
- Exclusion and Attribution of IP addresses and Domains: Asset exclusions cannot be applied to shell companies. Assets are not attributed to shell companies in the same manner as they are for Bitsight-curated companies.
- IP Count: The shell accumulates the total number of IP addresses within the ratings tree.
