Company Mapping Scenarios

A company can be removed from the Bitsight inventory and become inactive or it may be unsuccessful in getting added for a company request. Refer to the following possible scenarios where a company is removed from their ratings tree.

Duplicate

Duplicate entities are companies that do not autonomously exist. They do not meet the criteria to have their own individual company report, but an equivalent report is available on the Bitsight platform (e.g., domains that redirect); The domain is already included in another report.

A new company request cannot be submitted for duplicates. The duplicate’s active assets are transferred over to the remaining company.

If a company is incorrectly marked as a duplicate, please contact Bitsight Support for assistance.

Duplicate Scenarios

Acquisition
The entity was acquired by another entity. The acquired entity often gets absorbed into its new parent.
Brand-Name
The entity’s website is a branded product that’s an intellectual property of another official company.
Merger
The entity’s website was taken offline and their ratings tree was updated to reflect that it originated from the merger.
Web-redirect
The entity’s primary domain no longer resolves to its own website. Instead, it redirects to a domain that was previously added to the Bitsight inventory.

Tree Restructure

The company’s infrastructure was restructured, such as a merger.

Unmappable

The entity does not fulfill the criteria for its own rating report and does not have an equivalent report on the Bitsight platform. The unmappable entity’s assets become inactive since there is no other entity to re-assign them to.

Unmappable Scenarios

Domain-expired
The asset is offline. Bitsight reports require a working, accessible domain and the entity’s website no longer resolves to an accessible web page or website.
Sanctioned
Access to the entity and its website is restricted since it has been sanctioned by the US State Department.
